My Opinion

My Opinion

The Mannequin Mess.

As told by Priyanka V, age 20

When I heard that Mumbai is going to ban mannequins modeling lingerie from its shop windows to stop the city's men having "impure thoughts", my jaw dropped. In my opinion, and I think I can speak on behalf of the majority, there are far more serious issues to deal with in Mumbai like, corruption, the terrible roads, or ridiculous traffic visa vie this pettiness.

This is a ridiculous and unnecessary law, and it’s awfully sad to have to accept the fact that the authorities are correlating the display of lingerie with any ill intention of men, or even suggesting that taking lingerie off mannequins will mean fewer temptations for men.

Its seems to me, that as a nation, we can’t find justification for abuse to its women- So instead of tackling the more pertinent issues which lie at grass root levels and probably stem from within an Indian households itself, it seems we have begun the race to find any random reason to justify this supposed ‘corruption of men’s minds’.

And really, did they forget about those item numbers in little bikinis from Mumbai- and our increasingly raunchy land of Bollywood? What about those ads on TV with sexy women selling cement or whatever? Are they planning to start with mannequins and go all the way to media and everywhere else?

If anything, with is rule, the powers that be seem have taken one giant step backwards to Iron Age, and the youth don’t approve. And Mumbai? We love our city and we love that it’s one of the most open-minded cities- don’t change that, plllllleaseeeee!
